Dentist Discovery!

I usually let Amie do the blogging but I had to share a break through I had this morning at the dentist. Last week our little Landon came home so proud of himself. He had been to the dentist and called me to say he didn't need to get a shot to dull the pain. I was very impressed as was Amie.

This morning it was my turn to get drilled. I mentioned to Dr Gordon about Landon not needing anything for the pain and he said they actually have done studies that show kids don't really know what to expect so they are able to deal with the pain much better than adults. Basically he was saying that I and the rest of us oldies were a bunch of baby moaners and we couldn't take it.

I certainly couldn't let me 4 year old one up me with the dentist so I told the doc I was going ah-natural. So he started drilling and I was surprised at how not so painful it was. 4 medium sized cavities later, the assistant un strapped me from the chair, I got up and wiped the tear streams from my face. Just kidding about that. It really was not painful. I would say uncomfortable at times but the shot would have been more pain than I felt. And now I don't have to deal with drool all over my desk (except when I take my afternoon nap) cause I have complete control of my facial muscles.

So the next time you go to the dentist take my advice; for go the needle and deal with the little pain there is.

And yes I had 4 cavities. Not proud of that but until I find a suitable alternative to sugar I'm stuck.

The Adventures of Amie

Last Saturday at Wines park in Lehi we were waiting for Emmie's dance team to preform. Having some time to kill the kids wanted to climb the Rock Wall. unfortunately for them they weren't old enough. The National Guard guy who was running the booth asked Amie and I if we wanted to climb the wall. I declined and thought Amie would follow suit....Oh how wrong I was!

She passed Lexie to me and up she went. 1 minute and 26 seconds later she was at the top with a big smile on her face looking down at a very proud family.

Who knew that we had such an adventurer on our hands? First the Ragnar. Then the Rock Wall. What's next? Sky Diving perhaps? What ever it is I bet it's spectacular!

The Things Kids Say (Part II)

Saturday Logan and Landon were with my Mom and Dad driving to our house when Logan asked how the cows were doing (for those of you who don't know a few of us bought steers to slaughter for food storage). Not wanting to hurt the feelings of the boys by telling them we were going to kill and eat them, he said they were doing good but soon they would be in the freezer. Of course the boys wanted to know how we were going to get them into the freezer and "wouldn't they be cold?" and things like that. So Grandpa said we were going to have them killed. Logan's reply was "You mean you're going to shoot them in the head so we can eat them?"

"Yes Logan. And we will have hamburger and roast and steak to eat." said Grandpa.

"MMMM. I could go for a steak right abot now." Logan replied.

Note to Grandpa: The boys know about killing and eating animals and love to talk about the subject. No need to dance around the circle of life subject with our kids. :>) Now I'm hungry.

The Things Kids Say

As we were sitting in church singing the opening hymn, there was this little voice singing at the top of his lungs inaudible things. It was very much like baby babble coming from a not so older voice. We soon realized that this noise was coming from OUR bench. I look over and to my surprise and shagrin, Landon had his hymnal out to some random page and was belting out a song that the most seasoned interpreter could not make sense of.
I quickly tapped him on the shoulder and gave him a shhhh and a look. He gave me the look right back and proclaimed "Dad, I'm singing in spanish!" Neither Amie nor I nor the couple behind us could finish the song.

On Mother's Day we sat around the table and I thought it would be a good thing if we went around the table and said what we loved about mom. I went first followed by Logan. When it was Landon's turn he looked thoughtfully at the ceiling trying to think of something so great, so tremendous, so special that it would take his mom's breath away. When he had thought for a bit he proudly proclaimed with a big smile on his face, "Well, I love that she does Gilad!"

For those of you who don't know, Gilad is a mid 50's exercise instructor who has a show on the Fit TV channel. Amie and her good friend spent the early morning hours every other day with Gilad.

Toothless wonder

Bring on the Cheese!

I realize this may be cheesy, but in honor of our ten year anniversary we decided to run a 10K together. It was fun, and we made it to the end in one piece. During the run I wanted to talk about how we met or something significant along those lines. Frankly we were too winded for any of that. So for celebrations sake I say go ahead, bring on the cheese.

I saw this here and here and loved it. This is my list of 22 things I've learned from motherhood. If you do this tell me I want to see your list!

1. Don't sweat the small stuff, if you do you will sweat a lot

2. There is a period of time when you should hide crayons, sharpie markers and butter knives. You never know where or what they will be used for.

3. When something gets destroyed, or just needs to be fixed, you might get teary when it is repaired or replaced.

4. Read. A Lot. Out loud. Over & Over

5. Cranky kids? Just add water. Tub. Swimming Pool. Hose.

6. Stop for ice cream

7. Hold the babies

8. Say yes as much as you can

9. Kids want to be heard, hear them. Be present.

10. Try not to be in a hurry

11. Eat dinner together

12. If you want something to happen, plan.

13. I'm not as patient as I thought I was

14. Dirt is fun

15. Cowboy boots are necessary

16. Bedtime is mandatory except when its not.

17. Bandaids cure headaches

18. All you need is a holdy

19. If its gross, its hilarious

20. Its ok to cry it out

21. play, play and play some more

22. I feel like i can do things that I technically may be too old to do. But I feel like I can because I have the kids with me.

Baby Talk

First sentence, "Hi Dad!" Lexie-15 months.

The way things work

"Mom, how do you get married?" asking for further information, he says "You know, I mean, how do you get it all set up?" Logan- age 6.

Necessities of Life

"Mom, if I don't wear my boots, I'm doomed". -Landon age 3
