Go ahead, eat my crust...

It was just recently that time of year, you know the Webb annual pie competition. After trying recipes in the test kitchen, Bri found the winner. He was confident going into the competition but his lemon coconut buttermilk pie was beat out by a delicious raspberry cream pie made by my cute sister-in-law Adrien. Maybe next year. The smack talk continues to this day.....

A Lot of This...

Pears are scheduled in the line up this week. And just so you know, if you get a build up of fruit flies, just make a fruit fly trap, it clears them out pretty quickly. What you need:

bowl

clear plastic wrap

bait.

Just put your bait in the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, poke small holes in the plastic wrap and you will be able to get rid of those pesky critters asap. I need to know, has anyone ever tried getting rid of fruit flies this way before? Its a nifty trick!

I've been on Summer Vacation

Long time no see, its amazing how time just scoots right along, last time I checked it was June and now September is just about half way gone. The last few months have been filled with sunscreen, water, summer field trips and plenty of ice cream cones. We hate to see summer go, but we love this time of year too, for me its kind of like January in that I feel a new resolve to try again, and do better. I'm sure its a result of a new school year starting. So, here's to new schedules, shoes that still have white soles, and bouquets of freshly sharpened pencils.

Graduation

My baby hasn't been a baby for awhile now, it's true what they say, it feels like you blink your eyes and suddenly they grow up. Mister man #1 lost his first tooth. For me this was the official graduation from babyhood. Before I know it he will be moving out of the house. All I will have to do is blink twice. I'm going to try and keep my eyes open as long as possible.

No More Mud!!

The mud baths in my yard are getting a little ridiculous.  Just this afternoon, I got after the kids for getting into the mud again.  A few months ago I was feeling very "the glass is half full", and "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" in regards to this sitiation .  My outlook is not so cheery at this very moment.  Today, I say, stay out of the mud, I think these kids have had enough mud baths to last them the rest of their childhoods...

Truth Be Told

This weekend during a car ride going from here to there, Logan informed Landon of a very important tidbit of knowledge.  "Landon, you know, Anakin turns into Darth Vader when he grows up", Landon in a tone that can only be described as completely shocked says "Anakin turns into Darth Vader?  You gotta be kidding me man!"  Out of the mouths of babes....

We are the champions

I love the D.I. (Deseret Industries) for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, its our local goodwill store.  I love taking my junk there, don't you just love the feeling of getting rid of stuff you no longer want or use, with the possibility that maybe someone else will want it?  I also love taking a spin through the store every once in a while to see what treasures I can find.  This last weekend we shopped and found this lovely item, a beauty queen trophy, measuring more than six feet tall.  All I can say is that Brion has big plans for this diamond in the rough....

Just not something you see everyday

A few weeks ago we got a 4lb package of honey bees. What in tarnations are you thinking (I can hear this thought running through your mind). Just trying to keep things hopping around here. Just so you know 4lbs of bees is about 13,000 bees. The pictures here are my personal study of bee keeping (children's books) The real bee keeper (Brion) took an actual class, he's now a professional so don't worry :) Dumping 13,000 bees into a beehive is just not something you see everyday. Wish us luck!

Catching up, a little behind schedule here....

Easter, oh Easter, I know this was so last month, but I wanted to post it anyway.  Our Saturday before easter tradition includes an egg hunt, hot dog roast and egg rolling.  Egg rolling: What's that?  Well, in a nutshell you decorate your hard-boiled eggs, and roll them down the steepest hill you can find.  Its surprisingly entertaining and the kids love it!  If you are silently saying that's nuts, you're not the first and won't be the last.  Let me tell you though, once you try it you will love it!

Dogs, an update.....

Thankfully, Daisy did not break the neighbor dog's leg.  Although the little pup is still limping around, neighbor relations have not been compromised.  I am so relieved, seriously....  Speaking of serious, I took your comments to heart, I haven't seen the movie Marley and Me yet, but I read the book this week.  I related to that story on many levels and in the end I felt better about my pup.  I laughed and cried and came out with a new resolve to hang in there with my "Marley".  I will be watching the movie soon.

Dogs

We have a dog, and just to make it clear I have had some not so pleasant experiences with our pup.  The first summer we had her, she dragged me around the neighborhood and at times I felt like a three ring circus with the dog, the kids, the stroller, and a bike balanced on top (of the stroller).  She pulled me down and through the flower bed once (that wasn't pretty).  She bounded through the neighbors yard while their parrot was out enjoying the summer sun (I about had a heart attack on that one).  Not to mention the time I was so mad at her that when I was pushing my stroller up a hill with my head down,  I ran into a parked car.  I'm pretty sure there are people in the neighborhood who think I'm crazy.  Tonight she jumped on the neighbors dog (trying to play of course)  and I think I could be paying for one expensive pet bill.  grrrrr.  Should we kick her out of the family?  I don't know, but she has and continues to give me a run for my money.....

Big News at the Webb's!!!

Well it is time to share the big news. We are going to have another baby! We are excited although it comes a little sooner than we anticipated. This means that Lexie will only be 16 or 17 months older than this new little one. I am hoping for another little girl and I think secretly Brion is too. I think it would be so fun to have two little girls in the house playing with dolls and girly stuff along with all the boys stuff. I am nervous about having four kids but from what I hear four is not much different than three. We shall see. We don't really have any names for either a girl or a boy but I am guessing we won't deviate from the "L" names. Do you have any suggestions??? Other than that, the snow, and a few sick children, things are pretty quiet around the Webb home on this the first day of April.

Mud, Mud Everywhere

We have a partially unfinished yard which leads to mud.  I'm sure you can imagine what has happened with warming temperatures, melting snow, and dirt in the yard.  I've observed that mud brings much joy to the little people in my life, but it also leaves the mom with a pile of laundry, shoes and a front porch to hose down.  Most of the time I say a resounding NO! to a mud bath, but I have a lingering childhood memory in which my Mom said yes to mud.  I have to say, that the experience was a joyful one for me.  I picture myself splashing, running and laughing as I relished in an opportunity to play in the messy stuff.  This memory crops up occasionally when I issue my warning of stay out of the mud!  Of course, I rarely get complete compliance to my instructions, let's be honest, dirt mixed with water is just really hard to resist when you are five.  So, a couple of weeks ago when I was out hosing off a pair of jeans during a February snow storm, I had to think back to one of my mud baths years ago when my mom said yes to mud.

Long time no blog, I know, but seriously sometimes I get stage fright about what to write about.  Does this ever happen to you?  I'm curious so feel free to respond.   Here's what's been happening, baby boy #2 is practically potty trained.  This is a happy day for me.  He's been on and off with this accomplishment for about a year.  Last year when I was in the throes of morning sickness (more like 24/7 sickness for me),  he had a period of time where he did all his business in the toilet, it was such a relief not to have to take care of diapers for awhile.  When I started feeling better he was back to diapers.  I consider his temporary potty training during that period of time a Tender Mercy.  Big L has learned to roller blade.  He picked this new skill up in about five minutes or less.  I think its a blessing and a curse that some children are not afraid to try and learn new things.  He is definitely a brave and courageous soul.  Baby girl is 4 months old, my how time flies.  Her latest accomplishments and discoveries include laughing out loud and finding her feet.  I love this.
